BDTIC 2026 — A Milestone for Building Digital Twin Innovation in Europe
Hycool_IT was part of the Building Digital Twin International Congress 2026 (BDTIC 2026) in Brussels, organized by the Building Digital Twin Association.
The 6th edition of the Building Digital Twin International Congress (BDTIC) successfully concluded in Brussels. Co-organised by Building Digital Twin Association (BDTA) and ECTP – European Construction and sustainable built environment Technology Platform, with the operational support of the FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute and the Thon Hotel Bristol Stéphanie, this year’s edition brought together approximately 100 participants from 19 countries and 79 organisations for two days of keynotes, expert presentations, and workshops across two venues at the heart of Europe.
Discussions spanned some of the most pressing topics in the digital built environment — from Digital Product Passports and Digital Building Permits, to standardisation in JTC1, CEN and ISO, trustworthy AI, interoperability, open source digital twins, urban-scale aggregation, and results from EU Green Deal projects including PROBONO, ARV, oPEN Lab, Hycool-IT EU Project and Dyman Project EU.
The latest developments in Building Digital Twins, Digital Building Logbooks, Digital Product Passports, harmonisation of standards, and regulation, all topics that were discussed during #BDTIC26 in Brussels. Its interesting to see how digitalisation unfolds in the construction sector and unlocks new services, business roles, and business models.
Hycool-IT EU Project organised a CWA workshop, another step towards new standards for Smart Building Digital Twins.
What stood out most was not only the quality of the presentations, but also the strength and diversity of the community. Researchers, technology providers, policymakers, construction companies, infrastructure experts, and digital innovators all came together around a shared ambition: making Building Digital Twins a practical reality.
A few takeaways from such inspiring meeting:
-Always keep the final goal in mind. Technology, models, and platforms are only valuable if they contribute to better decision-making and real-world impact.
-Standardization is key. Without common standards, interoperability and scalable digital twin ecosystems will remain difficult to achieve.
-AI is rapidly changing the landscape. By next year AI-assisted development can accelerate the creation of digital twins — while still respecting the standards and interoperability requirements our sector depends on.
